What is Living-IT?

About Living-IT - Weight Loss Support Program

Living IT is the third phase of the Medical Weight Management program offered at The Methodist HospitalClasses meet weekly with the goal of reinforcing and deepening the scope of the behavior and nutrition concepts presented to patients in the earlier phases of treatment.  There is a monthly cost which includes weekly weigh-ins, group support and discussion, interactive food classes and presentations by guest speakers.  Our personal chef, Janet Horton and fitness specialist, Eddie Thomas also bring a wealth of information about ways to prepare food and stay active.  Attendance is voluntary and patients may purchase any of our New Direction products while attending classes.

Additionally, we send out a bi-monthly enewsletter that patients say keeps them connected to the program long after they stop coming to classes.  The enewsletter often addresses issues that are raised during classes.

About Methodist Weight Management Center

Methodist Weight Management Center is a comprehensive program designed to help those battling with their weight choose the best medical route to lose weight and begin leading healthier lives.

As the only program of its kind in Houston, the goal of the Center is to enable you to become healthier by offering you the tools to successfully lose weight and keep it off by sharing our knowledge, expertise and guidance through all phases of your weight loss.

We believe that weight loss and weight maintenance are complex, and treatment options vary for different patients. Treatment approaches for weight loss should depend on the patient’s weight, lifestyle and individual needs.

Our programs include medical weight management program, medical nutrition therapy and weight loss surgery. The Medical Weight Management program is a physician supervised, beverage-based diet program designed for patients who have a BMI of 30 or more. This program guides patients through all phases of weight management, from initial weight loss to maintaining a healthy weight.

Medical Nutrition Therapy is a comprehensive treatment plan that includes:

  • One-on-one instruction with a dietitian
  • Management of medical nutrition needs
  • Advanced counseling

Weight Loss Surgery (Gastric Bypass and Lap-Band) offers patients with a BMI of at least 35 an effective tool in losing and maintaining weight loss along with improvements in many diseases such as diabetes, sleep apnea and hypertension. In order to prepare patients for surgery, and to help guide and support them after surgery, our team of dietitians, counselors, exercise physiologist and your surgeon provide many services and programs.
